Fidel Gonzalez
has been living a ketogenic lifestyle for the last 6 years which has improved his quality of life. Despite having been fairly active most of his life with running and going to the gym, he struggled with weight gain as he aged. At 40 years old he had his first hip replacement and was advised to not run due to it being a high impact activity and may affect the lifespan of the hip replacement. After completing his hip rehabilitation he then took up cycling with a vengeance which helped achieve some weight loss but only to a point. It wasn’t until he turned 46 years of age that he discovered LCHF/keto and haven’t looked back since.
He was always very active but couldn’t understand how he kept putting on weight.
At 39 he was diagnosed with early onset osteoarthritis. He had one operation that didn’t help and that was followed by a full hip replacement and then the other hip 18 months later.
Fidel’s wife is low carb as well as his daughter and mum. He helps lots of people to change their way of eating.
Fidel uses exogenous ketones, both ketone salts and ketone esters, before races and before exams. He uses them strategically because of the cost, it is not feasible to do this all the time.
Unless Fidel is doing extremely long races of over 8 hours he fasts prior to and during a ride. He only drinks water and black coffee.
